Five things to ask your insurance agent

1. What coverages do you need? The answer will vary for each person, but your agent should be able to give you a straight answer/suggestion.

2. Discounts – which ones are you eligible for and are you getting all the ones you qualify for? Carriers give discounts for a variety of reasons, so ask!

3. What is actually covered? On the flip side, you should also understand what isn’t covered. You’d hate to find out you’re not covered at the very moment you need it.

4. What do the various terms mean? Ask about words you don’t understand. Car and home insurance are not like medical insurance, and a good agent will explain things to you.

5. Why did they choose your carrier? If they work for more than one carrier, you should ask why they chose that carrier for your policy. Each carrier differs in coverages, price, and customer service. They also have quotas. You should know what you’re getting into.
